Grassroots democracy

With just four full days of campaigning it is gratifying to see so many people that have never been part of the political process offering their assistance, either by volunteering, requesting a lawn sign or making a financial contribution. This is what grassroots politics is about; people getting involved.

This is kind of like the People’s Campaign and a return to democracy for the many who have never gotten involved before. It has been very interesting to watch unfold. I can see a need for political parties, but I do enjoy being able to speak for the riding without it being just the party’s opinion and not my own. There is a place for an Independent in this system.

I have been asked what can an Independent candidate do in Parliament? The answer is simple; I can express the wishes of the riding without having to go through a Whip’s office, a critic or worrying that my comments on an issue will be problematic for another caucus member elsewhere in the country.

I picked up the campaign vehicle yesterday and I’m in Musquodoboit today. (That is pronounced Musk-o-dob-it.) You can’t miss the campaign car! I’ll post a picture of it here in the next couple of days. When you see me, give me a friendly honk and a wave!

He is serious in his bid for the seat. We need new blood. We need someone who can deliver for the riding,

Casey is a has been with nothing to offer any longer. So Casey gets elected again and what changes? He had no voice before, he will have less now. Oh yes he can get in the media and complain, but what can he actually do. Nothing.!! and this riding deserves more than that.

I think he is selfish and should have retired on a high note. After this election - when all the hoopla dies down- where will the people of CCMV be- stuck with an MP with no voice or respect at the table. Sad......Punish Harper if you like, but don't punish the people here.

ABC -Anybody But Casey ----Wow u have this situation clearly thought out .Again i say you prove that everyone here is not a gullable bohunk dupe . Casey had his fun ,running to the media ,his office campaigning to get him named story of the year by The Halifax Herald .How shallow ! This is not what MP offices are funded for .Working on behalf of Brenda Martin ???? After he is elected he will be even more redundant and irrelevant .The locals will probably wake up after the election to this sad sad situation but the drama will likely drone on with no hope for the riding other than having a Whining ,Whining selfish Whiner on their hands .IMO

Bill Casey is a man with great respect here in Nova Scotia and across Canada. We are lucky to have him. Keep on Bill we need you in Ottawa!
